Hi! I’m Dr. Karlisa Callwood.

I’m an interdisciplinary fisheries researcher, informal science educator, and science communicator who loves engaging communities to understand their perspectives and attitudes towards the environment and facilitating conversations around how we make science more accessible.

As a marine ecologist, I use social science to gain a better understanding of the role that people play in the marine environment. My current work prioritizes giving fishers and other stakeholders a voice in marine conservation, enhancing awareness about the condition of our oceans, promoting conservation and sustainability through enhanced community engagement, and educating the next generation of marine scientists from underrepresented communities.
